Lunch
I met Tom and his sister over at The Spencer Arms in Cawthorne near Cannon Hall for lunch. They did two sizes of pizza which was nice because I didn’t want a massive one for lunch so I had the 8″ “From the Garden” pizza. Tom had the Fried Halloumi sandwich.
Dinner
I had to cancel our table at South Street Kitchen a few weeks ago but had rebooked for tonight because I really fancied their July Summer menu.

We had some olives followed by the cauliflower and tofu dish, the tomatoes with burrata, and the carrots. It was all lovely (as usual) but I thought the carrots were just amazing. they were so perfectly cooked. I also heard on good authority from friends that the hispi cabbage was great. I’d like to try something similar to that myself.
No room for dessert but the Mock Rose Lemon Spritz is highly recommended and means I never mind driving when we come here.

Lunch
Enthused by the black soybean spaghetti I tried last Thursday I used it to make a noodle salad for lunch today. It’s loosely based on this Asian Noodle Salad which in turn was based on one from the World Food Cafe Cookbook by Chris & Carolyn Caldicott. I followed the dressing recipe but served it with a salad of the black spaghetti, carrot, red pepper and fried tofu with sesame seeds.

Dinner
Not a lot to say about this one because it appears so often: patatas bravas with veggie sausages and garlic mayo and tonight with added roasted purple sprouting broccoli because I had some to use up.

Lunch
Tom was out so I had a burger in a pitta bread with lettuce and garlic mayo from last night’s dinner. It was a Strong Roots Pumpkin and Spinach burger which are a good ready-made burger option if you want something vegetable-y rather than going down the fake meat route.
Dinner
Courgette tagliatelle for dinner. There’s going to be a lot of this as we get into full-on courgette season!

Lunch
I was out a lunchtime so Tom had some old lettuce soup from the freezer! Not the most enviable lunch. I got back late and hungry so picked up some fake shawarma meat from the supermarket on the way home and had it in a pitta with lettuce, mayo and sriracha sauce.
Dinner
We don’t often get aubergines in our veg box, perhaps because the focus is on locally available available produce but we got one this week so I made a dish I really like but hadn’t had for ages: https://www.olivemagazine.com/recipes/vegetarian/aubergine-pilaf-with-crispy-halloumi/ It’s quite simple but has a lovely combination of textures and is very satisfying.

Lunch
Urban Pitta for lunch. I can’t remember what I had but it was probably a halloumi salad box.
Dinner
Mushroom and red pepper goulash with rice.
Wednesday 22nd July 2026
Lunch
My usual minestrone recipe with the addition of some green beans. Served with cheese and baguette.
Dinner
Another veg box inspired dinner tonight. We had some beetroot this week so I roasted it and then added in some walnuts a few minutes towards the end of cooking time and served it with cubed feta cheese mixed into Suma oat rigatoni. Very tasty! Inspired by this Feta and Roasted Butternut Squash Pasta – but where that originally came from is lost in the mists of time!

Lunch
Minestrone again – see yesterday.
Dinner
I was out at book group tonight so I left stuffed courgettes for Tom to have with potatoes. It’s a recipe that I snipped from a magazine with ground almonds, lemon, herbs, breadcrumbs, parmesan-style cheese, etc.
