Friday 24th July 2026

Lunch

Tom was out today so I had leftover stuffed courgette for my lunch.

I also managed to fit in coffee and cake at Aesthete. I can’t remember exactly what this cake was but it was very gooey (in a good way).

Dinner

Tramlines weekend! Our annual music festival in Sheffield. We always get a weekend ticket because it’s only 15 minutes walk from home and we love live music. So tonight was festival food. We had Mexican and it was very good. Tom had a burrito and I had nachos – I can’t remember the full details but the ingredients were nice and fresh.

Saturday 25th July 2026

Lunch

With a weekend of festival food in the evenings I fancied something quite wholefood-y and nourishing for lunch so went for Stewy Black Lentils with Chard and Feta from a book called The Weekday Vegetarians by Jenny Rosenstrach. I often make this when there’s chard available. It’s quite a simple recipe but seems greater than the sum of its parts. I rarely cook the lentils from scratch in this, instead using a sachet of Merchant Gourmet cooked lentils or sometimes canned lentils. I also vary between black beluga lentils and puy lentils depending on what I have in. It’s not an especially pretty dish but it’s one that makes you feel good.

Dinner

Tramlines again and Uzbeki food tonight from Oshpaz Wraps. Billed as a halloumi wrap but more interesting than your average halloumi wrap with potatoes included!

Sunday 26th July 2026

Lunch

Tomato and halloumi salad with baguette for lunch. (Not the best choice since festival food can be quite halloumi-heavy but we had nice tomatoes.)

Dinner

Final festival dinner was a fairly average Indian offering of paneer wrap, samosa and gunpowder fries.

Monday 27th July 2026

Dinner

Lentil stew leftover from Saturday lunch with halloumi that was leftover after making yesterday’s salad (instead of feta).

Lunch

Lunch at the lovely Aesthete today. We both dined from the Specials board. I had the Fasolakia, a green bean stew served with bread shards, feta and herbs; Tom had the red pepper and lentil soup served with a cheese toastie.

While I was looking up Fasolakia I came across this recipe that also includes potatoes which sounds nice. I fancy that without the feta but with veggie sausages.

Dinner

I think of this as a sweet and sour tofu stir fry but the recipe from Rachel Demuth’s Green World Cookbook is actually called Chilli Sweet and Tangy Tofu. We had it with rice instead of the usual noodles tonight.

Wednesday 29th July 2026

Lunch

I made my usual minestrone recipe today but skipped the pasta and added a can of borlotti beans instead.

Dinner

Patatas Bravas with veggie sausages (yes, that features a lot on our menu!).

Thursday 30th July 2026

Lunch

Tom had leftover minestrone and I met up with a friend in town and had lunch at Efes, a reliable Turkish restaurant that I’ve been going to for years now. We had a mixed mezze.

Dinner

Courgette tagliatelle. Hmm, keeping a food journal is definitely making me aware of certain dishes that I cook A LOT.

A note about salt

You might have noticed that I rarely mention salt in my recipes. I just don’t use it a lot. I’m sure a lot of people would think my cooking is ‘under seasoned’ but I have to watch my blood pressure and I’m used to not using much. There are some things, like rice, where I add a bit at the table but I rarely add it into my cooking.
