Lunch
Baker’s Yard in Kelham Island for lunch. We shared a lovely pie (roasted squash, greens of some sort, walnuts and brie I think) and a grilled peach salad with fennel, hazelnuts, courgette and cheese.

Dinner
We had friends visiting Sheffield this weekend and finally a chance to introduce them to South Street Kitchen. Their August menu was seasonal dishes rather than a specific theme and I could have eaten any/all of them!
We all shared the Khobz with black garlic butter and then my partner and I had the roasted hispi cabbage (beautifully cooked), the harissa carrots and some tenderstem broccoli (because I can never resist broccoli of any kind). We didn’t need dessert after that but my friend and I managed the frangipane anyway because it just sounded (and was) so delicious.

Lunch
It was a weekend of going out and we got lunch at Thyme Cafe in Broomhill. I hadn’t been for ages but it was a hot day and it was cool and quiet inside so it was perfect. They had a really good lunch deal for a mushroom shawarma wrap with chips and salad so we both went for that and it was really nicely cooked and great value. It was also plentiful so perfect to set us up for an afternoon of drinking and dancing at the ‘Ska Day Party’ we were heading to.

Dinner
We hadn’t made plans for dinner but after an afternoon of dancing we were pretty hungry so we headed to Mezwaani, a relatively new restaurant in Sheffield, that I’d been wanting to try for a while. It’s Indian but with some Chinese twists and there is lots of vegetarian choice. We went for a couple of the Indo-Chinese dishes to share. They were tasty and the service was lovely.

Lunch
To round off a whole weekend of eating out we met up with our friends for brunch/lunch at Joni’s in the Botanical Gardens. I’ve eaten at other branches but not this one and it was a good job we booked because it was manic. Lovely vegetarian choices. I think everyone else went for various variations of vegetarian/vegan full breakfasts and I had Avocado Toast from the vegan menu (toasted sourdough with avocado, marinated tomatoes, vegan feta, broccolini, toasted almonds & romesco).

Dinner
I was planning stuffed courgette for dinner because I’ve had a big courgette waiting to be used for a couple of weeks. I have an almond and lemon stuffed courgette recipe that I usually use but my friend who’d been over to visit mentioned one she did at a Vegetarian Society cookery course. She sent that over and I just so happened that I had the right things in to make it including half a bag of spinach that needed using up and just enough red pepper paste in the bottom of a jar in the fridge so it was meant to be! Courgette stuff with pinenuts, spinach and rice served with a creamy red pepper sauce that was really nice and could be good with other things too. Served with new potatoes.

Lunch
Leftovers from last week for lunch today: Leftover Moroccan soup with leftover chickpea curry mixed in. One of those combinations that was bound to work.
Dinner
Simple dinner tonight: Mushroom and red pepper goulash with sour cream and rice.

Lunch
We were in town at lunchtime so went to Atkinsons for our usual cheese omelette and chips.
Dinner
It was running club speed session tonight so we ended up at Urban Pitta again. It’s a great fast food option because I don’t think it’s any less healthy than home cooked food.

Lunch
My notes for today say ‘leftover soup and leftover salad’ but I’m not sure of the details beyond that. I really must get to the point where I’m not always playing catch-up with my food journal. The salad was probably leftovers from my Urban Pitta salad box last night. They are big and filling.
Dinner
We had some kale to use up and some nice new potatoes so I did sausages (Cauldron) with bravas sauce, crispy kale, boiled new potatoes and garlic mayo.

Lunch
I did courgette and sweetcorn soup for lunch but with red onion and yellow courgette and some leftover courgette insides from Sunday’s stuffed courgette. I was a bit worried about what colour it was going to turn out but it wasn’t too terrible – kind of beige which was better than the grey I was expecting. Not as good as its usual pretty speckled green though.
Dinner
A curry feast for dinner tonight. I did my usual coconut dahl (using creamed coconut in a block instead of canned because that’s what I had in); cabbage with peas from an old book, Indian Vegetarian Cooking, that I think I originally bought for my Dad; kachumber salad using the recipe in Spicebox; minty yoghurt; rice and poppadums.
Mowgli’s Tangled Greens is my usual go-to cabbage side dish for with curry but this cabbage with peas recipe was a great alternative. Definitely a keeper.
